A Journey for Grade R’s – Organized by the Maths Centre

The Maths Centre hosted a successful “Maps and Mirrors; People who help us” event on the  21st October 2016 at Tlhokomelo Primary School, Meadowlands, Soweto.  More than 250 learners attended the event with local stakeholders such as the Emergency Medical Services, Eskom, Soweto Transport Services and Early Childhood Centres.

The event was an excellent example of professional collaboration between the Maths Centre,   the Department of Education ,the local ECD Centres and the 260 Pre-Grade R and Grade R Learners attended the event.

Sarika Bachoo from the Maths Centre explaining the purpose of Maps and Mirrors and inspiring the learners that they can be anything they want to achieve in life.

Sindi, from the Maths Centre a conducted few a Science experiences which got all the learners excited.

Below is an image of Mr Nhlanhla Madlala from Eskom explaining the technicians’ job and the dangers of electricity.

Below is an image of Tumelo Mofokeng form the Emergency Services Department who gave a very fun and interactive presentation. He taught the kids how to memorize emergency numbers through catchy songs which the kids seemed to enjoy.

Learners displayed the different professions they would like to be when they grow up.

The ECD Unit wishes to extend a very sincere word of thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of the event. A special thank you to all our contributors, namely Worley Parsons, RMB, the EMS department, Eskom, Tlhokomelo Primary School, the ECD principals and practitioners in the Meadowlands area.  We truly believe that all our efforts did indeed Engage learners; help initiate the process to Transform these young minds so that they can Achieve their goals.
