My name is Mitchel Makhutjija. I am a grade 12 learner at Chueuekgolo Secondary school. Maths centre has helped me to obtain knowledge and skills to use when attempting difficult and confusing mathematical problems that I come across on a daily basis. The afternoon classes helped me focus critically on my school work without any interruptions and to complete home activities with my class mates. Saturday classes helped me avoid spending more time outdoors with my friends. Mr Ziso is my main motivator. He encourages me not to give up and to keep pushing until I am able to solve a problem. My teachers also motivated me, they always encouraged me to work hard and stop doing things which will not take us anywhere in life.
In June Maths Centre and ABSA organised a Maps and Mirrors event for us in Johannesburg. I was one of the few fortunate learners who were chosen to go on that trip. This event changed my vision completely. The presenters made me realise that Mathematics can open many career doors apart from Engineering and Medicine. I was moved when ladies from Lebowakgomo like myself told us their path to academic victory. I have made my decision to study hard and change my lifestyle.
